The project
CORDOVA is the clearest expression of the TBAD thesis: architecture without excess. Every decision on this project was a subtraction — the kind of editing that only decades of practice allow. What remains is a residence of extraordinary calm, where light, proportion, and material texture do all the work that decoration usually pretends to.
The plan is deceptively simple: a long, low, linear building oriented to the best views and the best light, with living volumes strung along a single internal circulation spine. No show-off double volumes. No ceremonial staircases. No imported marble. Just careful proportion, honest materials, and the confidence to let them speak.
Materials are drawn from a restricted palette: hand-troweled lime plaster, oiled oak, unpolished travertine, antiqued brass. Custom joinery defines every fitted space so nothing feels generic or off-the-shelf. The lighting scheme is entirely recessed and dimmable — no visible fittings, only effect.
CORDOVA is for clients who have lived with excess and want to stop. It is a home designed to quiet the mind — and, over time, to become more itself rather than less.
- 1Linear single-spine plan eliminating circulation inefficiency
- 2Restricted 4-material interior palette deployed across all spaces
- 3Fully recessed and dimmable lighting with no exposed fittings
- 4Custom in-studio joinery integrated flush to plaster in every room
- 5Proportional system derived from site sight-lines rather than grid
- 6Oiled-oak flooring laid continuously across the entire ground plane
“After years in big houses, we built the one we actually wanted. CORDOVA is quiet in a way we didn't know a building could be.”
